Meet our new staff:

Sheri Morse, Children's and Family - Creative Arts Coordinator

What brought you to Mariners?
My family loves Mariners. We came here for the children’s program, and the 5:00 service. That was 7 years ago! And of course fell in love with Kenton’s messages.

Favorite hobby?
I love spending time outside. From the ocean to the mountains I love walking and enjoying the beauty of the outdoors. I love animals and enjoy our walks with the dogs.

Favorite cartoon character?
I do not really have one but Garfield always makes my smile.

If you were to perform in the circus, what would you do?
That’s a hard one… I think I would work with the lions.

Favorite Christmas memory?
After opening presents one Christmas, we all decided to get into our cars and drive to the family house in the mountains. My sister and her family, my folks and us had the best few days in the snow just being a family. The snow was perfect and the game nights were a hit with the kids.

Jonah Haase, Latin America Coordinator

What brought you to Mariners?
After the Peace Corps I moved here from Wisconsin and began the search for a new church.  My brother (a non-believer) recommended Mariners Church because a while back he crashed his bike in front of the church and several people came over to help him.  A week later in the Worship Center I stood up said, “I believe” for the first time.

Favorite hobbies?
Training Clydesdales with my dad. Euchre.  Here in CA: Zumba and line dancing.

If you could visit any place in the world, where would you choose to go and why?
Rome – I am a huge history buff.

Tell us about a unique or quirky habit of yours.
I collect machetes. Bigger the better.

What is your favorite weird food combination?
Cheese in cereal.  Num num

Jon Armstrong, Tech Arts

What brought you to Mariners?
I was invited by a friend back in 2003 and just keep going to different ministries

Favorite hobby?
Taking things apart and putting them back together.

If you could only use one gadget for the rest of your life, which one would you choose?
Iphone, I've yet to find something it can't do.

Desktop wallpaper on your computer?
It switched between the Golden Gate bridge at sundown and downtown LA at night.

Where are you from?
Irvine

What do you like best about your hometown?
That I'm moving to Costa Mesa.

Gene's Leadership Tip #309

Leaders Get the Joy of Hiring and the Responsibility of Firing

“Mediocrity is an insidious disease that saps the vitality, innovation, and energy of any organization. Once mediocrity infects any organization, it is extremely difficult to cure.”
-- Jeffery J. Fox

One of the most difficult things a leader must do is to inform someone on their team that, they are (click to read more...)

Influencing Leaders

There are plenty of people who try to train leaders, yet they often have a poor understanding of what true leadership requires.  As you are developing the leaders in your ministries, begin by (click to read more...)

Leadership Tip #306

Leaders Get Things Done

While on a mission trip, I had the privilege of meeting Willem and Beth Ellen Charles, who lead the Mountain Top Ministries (MTM) in Haiti. Willem and his wife began this ministry 11 years ago on the side of a mountain in the village of Gramothe. They took something that did not exist (except in their hearts) and in a very short time produced a...(click to read more)

Leadership Tip #305

The book of Romans reminds us to, “…take delight in honoring each other” (Rom. 12:10). Honor rolls out the red-carpet placing a high value on our fellow teammates. These words capture the thought of honor: placed above; admiration; confidence; dignity; integrity; honesty; moral soundness and purity. Spiritual leaders enjoy (delight) in honoring others as they serve and work alongside each other. Here are 10 things a leader can do to demonstrate honor to their team: (click here to read more...)

Leadership Tip #304

Self-Righteous Leadership

“Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God; for it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” So then each of us will give an account of himself to God. Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother.” (Rom. 14:10-13).

There isn’t any room for self-righteousness in a spiritual leader. The self-righteous leader is easily recognized by their... (click to read more...)
