Meet our new staff:

Sheri Morse, Children's and Family - Creative Arts Coordinator

What brought you to Mariners?
My family loves Mariners. We came here for the children’s program, and the 5:00 service. That was 7 years ago! And of course fell in love with Kenton’s messages.

Favorite hobby?
I love spending time outside. From the ocean to the mountains I love walking and enjoying the beauty of the outdoors. I love animals and enjoy our walks with the dogs.

Favorite cartoon character?
I do not really have one but Garfield always makes my smile.

If you were to perform in the circus, what would you do?
That’s a hard one… I think I would work with the lions.

Favorite Christmas memory?
After opening presents one Christmas, we all decided to get into our cars and drive to the family house in the mountains. My sister and her family, my folks and us had the best few days in the snow just being a family. The snow was perfect and the game nights were a hit with the kids.

Jonah Haase, Latin America Coordinator

What brought you to Mariners?
After the Peace Corps I moved here from Wisconsin and began the search for a new church.  My brother (a non-believer) recommended Mariners Church because a while back he crashed his bike in front of the church and several people came over to help him.  A week later in the Worship Center I stood up said, “I believe” for the first time.

Favorite hobbies?
Training Clydesdales with my dad. Euchre.  Here in CA: Zumba and line dancing.

If you could visit any place in the world, where would you choose to go and why?
Rome – I am a huge history buff.

Tell us about a unique or quirky habit of yours.
I collect machetes. Bigger the better.

What is your favorite weird food combination?
Cheese in cereal.  Num num

Jon Armstrong, Tech Arts

What brought you to Mariners?
I was invited by a friend back in 2003 and just keep going to different ministries

Favorite hobby?
Taking things apart and putting them back together.

If you could only use one gadget for the rest of your life, which one would you choose?
Iphone, I've yet to find something it can't do.

Desktop wallpaper on your computer?
It switched between the Golden Gate bridge at sundown and downtown LA at night.

Where are you from?
Irvine

What do you like best about your hometown?
That I'm moving to Costa Mesa.

Haiti Update

Here is an update from Lindsey Porter with the team in Haiti:

Wednesday we arrived at Light and Peace church to provide a medical clinic for the people there. It was the last day of the 3 day prayer and fasting that was encouraged by the government here. There were more than 700 people at the church praying. Gene had the opportunity to speak to them out of 1 Corinthians 6:12.

Haiti Team Update

The team is off to a great start. Everyone is bonding well. The travel Tuesday was uneventful which was good! We were able to get 19 people and 1100lbs of luggage and supplies into Haiti without a hitch! When we got to the orphanage (camp site) we were surprised to find 5 brand new showers and a few new toilets!

We spent the afternoon playing with the kids here, setting up camp and sorting medical supplies for the clinic tomorrow. We also were able to connect with Nick Balcombe from Operation Blessing (one of our partners in Peru). They will be helping us get supplies, food, water and tents to distribute to the people here.

Wednesday we will be providing a medical clinic for the people around Light and Peace mission. We have four translators that will be helping us.

Due to a slight mix up in communication we got word there was 400 people waiting for the clinic Wednesday at Pastor Josephs. Unfortunately we won't be there until Thursday but we are confident they will all be back!

God is providing for us in amazing ways. We have definitely seen God's provision over the last few days. Please pray for endurance and strength for the team. It's hot here! :)  -LP

Ministry contacts in Wilmington, North Carolina?

Recently a member of our partner church in Honduras (PIER) has been accepted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC, for an open heart surgery that would have been too risky to perform in Honduras.  Her name is Areceli and she is 24 years old.  She is expected to be in the US for 4-6 weeks.  All expenses for her and one family member are being covered by a group of non-profits. It's just the two of them and they know nobody.

Here is where you come in...PIER has asked if we (Mariners) have any contacts in the Wilmington area, who might be able to visit, encourage and minister to Araceli and her family member.  If you have any contacts/ideas, please let me know! Thanks for your help and let's keep them in our prayers ~ Barb x263
